MP3 Patent Sold To Sigma Tel

A source technology owned by a domestic company, ReignCom, required for designing an MP3 player has been sold to a U.S. company, Sigma Tel.

The US IT company announced that it has taken over the MP3 patent from ReignCom that is the biggest MP3 player maker in Korea. Sigma Tel plans to encourage electronics makers in China and U.S. to license its MP3 technology, by utilizing the patent bought from ReignCom.

However, membership companies of Korea Portable Audio Commission (KPAC), such as ReignCom, Mpio, and Cowon, will not be included in the list of companies that will be sued by Sigma Tel for using its patent technologies.
