Trademarks

SOUTH AFRICA

African Regional Industrial Property Organisation

An ARIPO trade mark registration is a single trade mark registration covering up to eight African countries. Currently these countries include Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, Uganda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. It is not necessary to designate all these countries in an ARIPO trade mark application, and it is therefore possible to elect any number of these countries in the application. Depending on the number of countries designated, this may prove to be a more cost effective manner of achieving trade mark protection in certain African countries.
