Patents India Indian institute C-DoT granted a US patent for data transmission technology The US Patent and Trademark Office has reportedly granted Centre for Development of Telematics, C-DoT, a patent for Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switch fabric implementation, which enables high speed data transmission through a new method of routing information packets. C-DoT has been granted a patent on the design and implementation of the chip that enables this technology. The ATM technology developed by C-DoT has the ability to carry voice, data and high quality video and provide high speed access to the end user. ATM based networks serve as an information superhighway for converging information flowing in the existing telephone network, the Internet as well as the cable TV networks into a single integrated network. C-DoT has also filed a separate patent application for the same ATM architecture in eight other Patent Cooperation Treaty countries. Currently, C-DoT has patents for eight technologies in India and has filed for 18 more patents in Europe and the US. These technologies include coding and decoding equipment for satellite systems, optical amplifiers and versatile finite impulse response for digital signal processing. |
